Terms of Service

Last updated: March 24, 2026

These terms govern your use of Notis, including the macOS desktop app and the web app at notis.hotdish.dev.

Acceptance

By using Notis, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

What Notis Provides

Notis is a note-taking application that helps you create markdown notes, manage tasks, and integrate with your calendar. The macOS app stores data locally on your device. The web app stores data on our servers (Cloudflare).

Your Content

You own your notes. Notis does not claim any ownership or license to your content. Your notes are standard markdown files that you can export, move, or delete at any time.

We do not read, analyze, or use your note content for any purpose other than providing the Notis service to you (indexing for search, parsing for task extraction, etc.).

Accounts (Web App)

To use the web app, you need to create an account with an email address and password. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Calendar Integration

If you connect Google Calendar or Microsoft Calendar, you authorize Notis to access your calendar events in read-only mode. Notis uses this data solely to display events in the app and create meeting notes. You can disconnect calendar integrations at any time from Settings.

Availability

We aim to keep Notis available and working, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service. The macOS app works fully offline. The web app requires an internet connection.

Updates

The macOS app checks for updates via Sparkle and may download and install updates automatically. You can disable automatic updates in the app's settings.

Termination

You can stop using Notis at any time. For the web app, you can request account deletion by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Disclaimers

Notis is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not responsible for any data loss — please maintain your own backups of important notes.

The macOS app stores notes as files on your disk. We recommend using a file sync service (iCloud, Dropbox, etc.) or a backup solution to protect against data loss.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Notis and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Notis after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
